My passion is magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), which results in pictures of cancer inside the body. The basis is this:

You place a person inside a strong magnetic field (30000 stronger than earths magnetic field). you essentially control the spin of the millions of protons inside the body. MRI equipment allows us to force the proton spin in different direction and this creates exquisitely detailed pictures from inside our body. Spots as tiny as 1 – 2 mm inside the body can be detected with the help of MRI.

      Hi Grace,

Mine has to be astronomy and space. I help build the instruments to see deeper into space and observe more stars and galaxies than ever before. Astronomy fascinates me because I want to know ‘where it all began’. Even more interesting to me is the thought of finding other Earth-like planets!

My favourite science topic would have to be quantum computing. I think the idea of being able to make a quantum computer is pretty awesome!

I really like astrophysics, particularly the study of compact objects, because some really exciting physics goes on in them.
