Question: As we know that the universe is expanding RAPIDLY, will there be a point where the universe stop expanding and will start to shrink? Will that mean that all life in the universe will come to an end? Thanks again!
Actually a fairly recent discovery by someone I know (which won him and his collaborators the nobel physics prize in 2012) proves that the expansion of the universe is now *acceleratingMATOMO_URL
So it looks like everything will just get further and further apart, until eventually everything is so distant and cold and lonely that practically nothing remains. Eventually even individual atoms will break away from each other, as the space between them expands more and more.
It’s a pretty depressing outlook! But it’s so far away that we needn’t worry.
