      Nobody invented electromagnetism, because it’s always been there, but it was discovered bit-by-bit by a few different scientists..

      Initially people didn’t realise that electricity and magnetism were linked, so they were discovered separately. One important guy in linking the two together was James Clerk Maxwell. There were others though.. several people worked in this area in different countries throughout the 1800s. It’s not always easy to know who got there first!

      Hi Sophie,

      Electromagnetism has always existed and was discovered by a Danish scientist in the early 1800s. Our understanding of electromagnetism was developed by Michael Faraday (a British scientist) shortly after and was more fully defined mathematically by James Clerk Maxwell (a Scottish scientist).
