Dear everyone, I’m still buzzing from the past two weeks. Going into I’m A Scientist, I really wasn’t sure what to expect, and I certainly didn’t expect to survive the swift and merciless judgement of our audience! I see now just how important an aspect the live chats were. Things got serious, silly, deep, dark, hilarious, and on occasions weird; all in a 30 minute burst of direct exchange between today’s researchers and tomorrow’s minds. It was *energising* – I loved it. And I learned a tonne of stuff myself. As an engineer-turned-researcher, I particularly enjoyed the “science vs engineering” questions when they came up. I too made assumptions about the engineer/scientist divide when I was at school (even when I was at university!), but never did I appreciate the magnitude of their overlap until, by accident more than design, I discovered the world of scientific instrumentation. With this in … Continue reading
The students have spoken. The votes have been double counted… Big congratulations to the Electromagnetic Zone winner: James Gilbert Hard luck to Usman but a huge thank you to everyone who took part. You were all brilliant. Students, don’t forget to tell us what you think about science and engineering now you’ve taken part. Log in to your profile, and fill in the questions in the box on the right hand side, to be in with a chance to win a voucher.
We’ve counted, checked and rechecked the votes and now reveal it’s game over for… Freya Wilson This leaves just “intelligent, passionate, determined” Usman and “imaginative, resourceful, ambitious” James to fight it out for the £500 prize tomorrow. Who would you like to see win tomorrow’s final battle? VOTE
We’ve counted the votes and you’ve now evicted… Miranda Jackson The two scientists left standing after tomorrow’s eviction will battle it out in Friday’s final. Who do YOU want to see in the final? VOTE for your favourite! Students, has taking part changed your view of science and scientists? When you next log in and visit your profile, you’ll see a pink box with new questions on the right. Fill in the questionnaire to be in with a chance to win a voucher.
The first scientist you’ve evicted is… Daniel Hewson One scientist will be evicted every day this week, and you get a new vote each day. Make sure to VOTE to keep your favourite in the competition. A student in each zone will win a voucher for asking great questions! And remember, you can comment on questions the scientists answer. Do you think the scientist is right? Do you disagree with them? Tell them!
